Coming to our Midway location

A Montessori-Inspired Preschool in Oak Harbor

Montessori learning that fits a working family's day. Full childcare hours, subsidies accepted, and a classroom built the way Montessori is meant to be built.

Montessori that works around your job

Most Montessori programs run school hours and private tuition. Ours runs childcare hours and takes the subsidies your family already uses.

Families tell us the same thing: they want a Montessori environment for their child, but the programs they find are half-day, private-pay, and impossible to combine with a full-time job or a deployment schedule. Our Midway location is being built to close that gap.

Open 6 AM to 6 PM

The Montessori work cycle runs in the morning. Your child stays for the rest of the day, with meals, rest and outdoor time, until you finish work.

Subsidies accepted

DSHS, MCCYN and MCCYN-PLUS for military families, and Child Care Aware Military. See our military families page.

Meals included

Breakfast, lunch and snacks are included at no extra cost. You do not pack a lunch.

One classroom, ages 4 to 6

A dedicated preschool room, not a Montessori shelf added to a conventional classroom.

What a Montessori morning looks like

The heart of Montessori is a long, uninterrupted work period. Children choose their own work from open shelves, and the teacher gives short lessons to one or two children at a time rather than teaching the whole group.

Snack sits open at a small table throughout the morning, so a child eats when they are hungry and returns to work. The morning is never stopped to feed everyone at once.

Real materials, not Montessori-branded toys

In Montessori the materials are the curriculum. They are precision-made wooden equipment, not toys with a Montessori sticker on the box, and the order a child meets them in is the method itself.

Each material is designed so that one quality changes and everything else stays constant, which is what makes the idea being taught impossible for a child to miss. They are also self-correcting: a child sees their own mistake in the material and fixes it, without an adult stepping in. That is why a Montessori classroom is calm, and why the teacher spends most of the morning observing rather than instructing.

We would rather show you the classroom than list its contents. Join the waitlist and we will invite you to see it.

Being straight with you

If you know Montessori, you know the label gets attached to a lot of classrooms that are not Montessori at all. So here is exactly where we stand.

What we are

A Montessori-inspired preschool classroom for children aged 4 to 6, opening at our Midway location. Genuine Montessori materials, a real uninterrupted work cycle, and a teacher trained in how to run it.

We are building it in stages rather than filling a room in a week. The classroom opens with a small, carefully chosen set of materials, and we add to it as the children are ready. That is slower, and it is the right way to do it.

What we are not

  • We are not a certified or accredited Montessori school, and we do not claim to be.
  • We are not affiliated with AMI or AMS.
  • This is one classroom within a childcare centre, not a standalone Montessori school.

What we are building is a Montessori environment that works with childcare hours and accepts your subsidy, run by people who take the method seriously enough to be precise about it.

Where it will be

The classroom is at our Midway location, 421 NE Midway Blvd, Oak Harbor. The building is finished and the classrooms are furnished. We are completing licensing with the Department of Children, Youth and Families, which is the final step before we open.

We are not publishing an opening date until that licence is issued. Families on the waitlist will be the first to hear it.
